Robertsons Mincemeat

Robertson’s is the proper shortcut: rich mincemeat packed with sultanas, currants, apple, candied citrus peel and warming spices, ready to spoon straight into pastry and bake your own mince pies or tarts.

Robertson’s Mincemeat, and mince pies in general, is one more of those things I absolutely did not appreciate enough as a kid.

Then my sister started making them with her pastry recipe, with a little orange zest in it, and somewhere along the way they became non-negotiable. Now it simply isn’t Christmas without mince pies.

And then comes the important bit: serve them warm with brandy butter. Or cream. Or both, because Christmas is not really the time for restraint.
